Purpose: This study aimed to identify the influence of osteoporosis knowledge, health belief and self efficacy on osteoporosis prevention behavior in middle-aged men.
Methods: Data were collected from 203 middle-aged men with structured questionnaires, Osteoporosis Knowledge Test(OKT), Osteoporosis Health Belief Scale(OHBS), Osteoporosis Self Efficacy Scale(OSES), and Health Promoting Inventory for the Prevention of Osteoporosis, from June 20 to July 10, 2019. The collected data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, independent-test, one-way ANOVA, scheffe¡¯s test, Pearson¡¯s correlation coefficient and stepwise regression analysis by using the SPSS Win 24.0 statistics.
Results: The major findings of this study were as follows; The average score of osteoporosis knowledge, health belief, self efficacy, osteoporosis preventive behavior were 0.72¡¾0.17(range 0-1), 3.27¡¾0.31(range 1-5), 3.49¡¾0.60(range 1-5) and 2.52¡¾0.43(range 1-4). There were significantly positive correlations relationship among knowledge(r=.14, p=.045), health belief(r=.22, p=.002), self efficacy(r=.47, p<.001) with osteoporosis preventive behavior. The factors influencing osteoporosis preventive behavior were self efficacy(¥â=.25, p<.001), health interest(¥â=.25, p<.001), self-reported health status(¥â=.12, p=.049). The total explanatory power of osteoporosis preventive behavior in the model was 36.6%.
Conclusion: This study suggested that we should develop preventive osteoporosis programs improving self-efficacy of osteoporosis prevention, health belief, and health interest for middle-aged men.
